    Am I a bad Pagan?

Monday, June 2, 2008, 07:44 AM EST [General]

Is it wrong to cut down a tree simply to improve the view? It's not a huge tree, but a young cluster of box elders that is smack dab in the center of my wonderful view out the 8-foot wide picture window in my living room.  It look out over my [horribly overgrown] backyard, my back field and the big field beyond that.  Now I just see a bit of field, and a bunch of leaves.

It certainly would be a suitable inaugeration for my new chainsaw, and i would certainly save the wood for the stove. No waste.

So am I a bad Pagan for not loving this tree?

I think it's ok as long as you'd be using the wood and it wouldn't be going to waste. It's not like you're clear cutting the land or anything. Might want to be sure that tree isn't helping to keep your kooling cost down in summer though.

i say move it. is there somewhere else on that huge lot of yours that you can just move it? or is it too big for that? just an idea. i try to move stuff, not do away with it, if possible. box elders here attract the bugs, so im all for moving any of them away from the house!
i bet youre just hoppin to fire that chainsaw up at 8 am, arent ya :) pictures, woman, pictures!

    Greetings Pythia,
I've been cutting down locust trees in my back yard. They have huge thorns on them and it keeps flating my tires on my lawn tractor. I also burn wood in the winter time, and the brush goes on a pile for bon fires for my rituals. I had a huge bon fire last Samhain from the brush. But when possible I plant other trees that I want in the area, kinda like I take and I also give back. I worry a lot about my grand babies walking and steping on one of the 2" thorns, and they hurt and sting like the dickons as I have step on one before. So my idea for you is when you can plant a tree that you want....
    Blessings,

Not at all as your not wasting the wood. You may well find yourself doing it often though

i think you should do whatever you feel ok about. it isn't up to us to judge you or say that you are bad for this or that. is there any way you could just transplant it?? or is it a monster? whatever you do, i'm sure it will be justified and done right. :) does that make any sense! lol! sorry... mondays and me don't see eye to eye. (((hugs)))~
